Super Mommy Syndrome

by focus on July 1, 2010

I have to say that the biggest thing that I need to stop doing in my business, is having “Super Mommy Syndrome.”  The problem is that, most mom entrepreneurs have it, and the surprising fact is that it is to a detriment leading to failing businesses.

I attended a workshop at the Evo ’10 conference where I realized that I am the person that tries to do everything myself, either because I want to save money, or time.  Usually that explodes in my face, and I end up not getting thing done on time, or how I actually want it done.

My big change for success is to let go, and to stop doing everything myself.  Learning to let others do what they do best is the key to success, and makes the difference between having a “jobbie” as Carol Roth refers to it as, or a bona-fide business.  I am dedicated to working and collaborating with others, because when it comes down to it, I want to be successful, and want to help myself and others in the process.

Carol Roth and Liz Strauss are my new favorite people (right below my husband and baby,) because after attending that workshop, I realized just how irresistible I am, and you are, and what I really need to do to be a successful business owner.  A really great suggestions they offered is to go to Elance to find specialized freelance workers to work on projects, and also to offer services if you are a freelancer.

Going back to my childhood, I remember watching this commercial, I don’t remember the name of the company, but I remember the commercial centered around the man being, owner, manager, and janitor.  At least something to that effect.  I don’t want to be there.

I, just like you, have a family to take care of, and have limited time.  More than anything, I’m probably a “nap-time entrepreneur” and have all but a few hours during the regular working day to get thing done, so I need to pack the biggest punch.  Most of that time is spent fumbling through tutorials on how to do this or that, and I am losing valuable time and sanity.

Furthermore, I’m still coming to terms with just how irresistible I am.  You know you can’t resist me!

What changes for success are you integrating into your business?  What road blocks are you facing in your business?
